  • 250 ml cooking cream 15% M.F.
  • 2 clove(s) garlic , peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 yellow onions , quartered
  • 2 bay leaf(-ves)
  • 3 sprig(s) of thyme
  • 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 4 potato(es) , peeled and finely sliced
  • To taste, salt and pepper
  • 80 ml cheddar (old), shredded
  • 250 ml milk
  • 250 ml cooking cream 15% M.F.
  • 2 clove(s) garlic , peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 yellow onions , quartered
  • 2 bay leaf(-ves)
  • 3 sprig(s) of thyme
  • 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 4 potato(es) , peeled and finely sliced
  • To taste, salt and pepper
  • 80 ml cheddar (old), shredded

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large saucepan, combine milk, cream, garlic, onion, bay leaves, thyme and nutmeg. Bring to a boil; then simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes. Keep warm.
  3. In a large square, ovenproof 20 cm (8 in.) dish, spread a first layer of potatoes, gently overlapping the slices. Repeat in a few layers. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Pass cream mixture through a sieve, add shredded cheddar and mix to combine. Pour over potatoes. Bake for 1 hour or until potatoes are tender.
  5. Serve as a side dish for grilled meat.
